As you may well notice, there are two major marathon races in Fukuoka; Fukuoka Marathon and Fukuoka International Open Marathon Championship 〓both take place less than one month. The former is open for the public, as long as you can run the course within 7 hours and pay the entree fee (10800 yen…to be tortured…but this is a different story) you can enter the race. The latter is for the professionals. You need to have a certain record to join the race and the race has a certain authority and a long history from 1947.
In both races, the runners run across the city and the main roads are occupied by the athletes. People like me, having nothing to do with the races, are pushed out from the city centre during the races.
This might (or I hope not) happen during the Olympic in 2020 in much bigger scale, I mean, nationwide, more strictly. Which feels a bit scary…Am I overthinking?
Anyway, in order to keep the “innocent” citizens out from the city centre, road closure notices have been put here and there. I understand the authorities try hard to make the closure time as short as possible, but they don’t have to be this precise, do they?
Is there any difference between 8:49 and 8:50 or even 9:00 on a Sunday mortning?
